Central Wisconsin Chapter - President's Message

by Joseph Koback

On January 16th the Hunters rights coalition (HRC) held its third annual summit meeting at the Ramada Convention Center.  Central Wisconsin Chapter proudly hosted this event.  We had a great turn out with numerous representatives from the HRC organizations along with many of the state’s other wildlife organizations.  Also present were Senators, Representatives and special guests from Madison to discuss our main issues including the deer numbers, the bear & turkey bills & stewardship program to name just a few.  The HRC now has a voice in Madison that people listen to.  But we need to make our voice louder & more powerful between now & the next election.  This next election we have a chance to put some candidates in office that actually are hunters and will support the hunter with their vote.

I would like to congratulate Sue Maass from Dancy, Wisconsin who was the winner of the HRC raffle.  Sue actually won the pistol on her birthday.

I am writing this as I am waiting for my plane in the Reno airport.  The SCI convention just wrapped up and I must say again in my opinion this is the greatest show on earth.  But now it’s time to get your tickets for the chapter banquets.  Hopefully by time you’re reading this you already have your tickets purchased.  If not don’t wait, tickets are limited.

Make sure you come early and attend the “Central Wisconsin Hunters Expo & Big Game Display”.  Our expo will again be highlighted by our Big Game Display, which we expect to have over 100 mounts brought in by Wisconsin hunters.  Bring in your big game taxidermy and possibly win a gun.  See our ad for details.  Also on display will be the Wild Whitetails display which is over 20 World class whitetails,  our Sensory Safari Trailer, outfitters, taxidermists, and sporting goods equipment vendors.  Make sure you support and thank all of our exhibitors they are our donors.

Also at the expo we will have official measurers from Safari Club International Records Department who can measure your trophies.  All trophies entered into the Big Game Display contest must be brought in on Friday.  Saturday morning SCI Records will also be holding an official measurers course for anyone interested in becoming an official measurer.  Anyone taking the course will get free admission into the expo.

Lastly, I challenge everyone reading this to personally get a youngster out in the woods.  I don’t care if it’s your son, daughter, grandchild, or the kid next door.  Take them out rabbit hunting, on your trap- line, fishing, cross country skiing or shed hunting.  Every minute you spend with them in the woods or on the lake you’re teaching them to enjoy the great outdoors.  You would be surprised at the number of children just looking for that mentor to take them out.  Be that mentor!
